New: Tudor Black Bay Blue Flamingo

Tudor Black Bay Chrono "Flamingo Blue"

The enthralling mythical hue that emboldens a classic

Tudor Black Bay Chrono "Flamingo Blue"

Nothing is more fascinating than a myth, and nothing is more mythical than a blue flamingo. Like the Loch Ness monster, where people have claimed to have sighted an actual blue flamingo, but never been able to prove that it exists beyond reasonable doubt. Such is the power of myths. In contrast to the real pink flamingo, if one were to imagine what the shade of a blue flamingo would look like, it would probably complement the intensity of the actual pink bird, it would be something closest to the shade of turquoise.

Tudor decided to create a hue that is simply seductive and alluring inspired by the mythical bird, and lend its awe-inspiring shade to the Black Bay series. Now cast your imagination where that blue giant bird would be stalking gracefully on the still and almost mirror-like surface of a calm lake on a sunny day with water reflecting the turquoise-blue sky, it’s virtually magic. It’s no wonder why Tudor has chosen the vivid and vibrant hue to show off on the dial of one of the most iconic collections in the family. The sporty Black Bay Chrono is suitable to endow the “Flamingo Blue” with panache as it has a power of presence all its own.

The Black Bay Chrono is one handsome and stunning watch in the “Flamingo Blue” edition, possesses a turquoise blue domed dial that lends the name, is decorated with two sunken black sub-dials – the chrono minutes counter at three o’clock, and continuous seconds at nine o’clock. The distinctive and iconic ‘Snowflake’ SuperLuminova-filled centrally located hour and minutes ‘index’ hands, sharing it with the red arrow-tipped central chrono seconds hand. The SuperLuminova-filled ‘dot’ hour indices sit just below the minutes and seconds black transferred track. The dial is then framed by a fixed stainless-steel bezel with black anodised aluminium inserts marked with a tachymetric scale. They culminate into a bold and sporty, yet elegant timepiece that is befitting its iconic status.

The main event for all watch connoisseurs and enthusiasts has to be the chronograph, and the Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813 is one gem. It has a column wheel chronograph construction and pairs with a vertical clutch, which is the industry’s finest and only found in the top end of Chronograph movements, due to not only its complex complication but also its extremely accurate and less wear-and-tear caused by the jarring and gnashing of the gears when the chronograph is activated in an ordinary horizontal chronograph arrangement. The MT5813 uses a silicon balance spring to add bonus and almost equal footing in reliability as some of the top Chronograph on the market, and adding a feather in the cap, it also has a COSC certification. And it comes with a 70 hours of power reserve.

The marvels are housed in a 41mm satin-brushed surface and polished bevelled edge stainless steel, a contrast that carries on handsomely on the five-link stainless steel bracelet. Not to mention the beautifully detailed fluted pushers and crown with a ‘Tudor Rose’ stamp. And it comes with a five-year transferable guarantee, without registration and mandatory maintenance checks. Now that is one impressive offering showing confidence in its reliability. With a stunning package inside out, what more is there to consider? It should be right at the top of your wish list this year.
