From supplying the Italian navy with timekeepers to developing a cult following with a fan club whose members call themselves ‘Paneristis’, Officine Panerai has come a long way since its beginnings in 1860.

In its quest to continually evolve, Panerai has launched the Submersible series as a standalone collection for the very first time. Of the 12 new references, we’re casting our eyes on the gorgeous Submersible Marina Militare Carbotech 47mm, a nod to the historical partnership between Panerai and the Italian navy.

The all-black watch is made of a new carbon-based material—Carbotech—specially created for Panerai. Super strong, lighter than titanium but tougher than stainless steel, Carbotech is excellent for diving enthusiasts who wish to take the watch underwater.

The piece comes in its iconic cushion shape with a Carbotech uni-directional rotating bezel for calculating immersion time, while the hours markers, small seconds, hands and zero marker are coated with white luminescence, all of which glow green in the dark, with the exception of the minute hand and zero marker which glow blue.

Within this handsome watch beats a robust automatic movement developed and manufactured in-house, with the proprietary Incabloc anti-shock device and Glucydur balance. When fully wound, the movement has a power reserve of 72 hours. Locking the calibre tightly in place is a titanium caseback, which comes with an engraving of a diver, and offers a water resistance of 300m.

There are few watches out there that you can wear every day without fear of inflicting damage from rough handling, but this Submersible Marina Militare Carbotech is definitely one of them.
