NEW: Longines Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve

A forgotten complication from the golden age of Swiss watchmaking returns with sharper proportions, smarter engineering and just enough modern polish

Longines has revived one of its more intriguing historical signatures with the latest Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve, building on last year’s 70th anniversary model with a softer, more contemporary execution. The headline change is a light blue opaline dial that immediately shifts the watch’s personality from vintage recreation to something noticeably fresher.

For collectors, the real appeal remains the display itself. Inspired by a 1959 Conquest reference, the complication uses two concentric rotating discs rather than a conventional hand. A black baton at the centre tracks the remaining energy against an outer scale marked from 64 down to zero hours. As the mainspring unwinds, the disc rotates continuously, creating subtle movement across the dial without distracting from the time display. It’s an elegant mechanical solution that Longines says was developed exclusively for the brand, and one that remains surprisingly uncommon more than six decades later.

The rest of the watch wisely avoids trying too hard. At 38mm, the stainless-steel case stays faithful to the proportions collectors increasingly favour, while the alternating brushed and polished finishing, box sapphire crystal and trapezoidal date window at 12 o’clock preserve much of the original Conquest character. The faceted applied indexes and distinctive “skyscraper” hands are lifted almost directly from the archive, but the pale blue dial keeps everything from feeling overly nostalgic.

Inside is the exclusive automatic calibre L896.5, beating at 25,200 vibrations per hour and delivering a healthy 72-hour power reserve. The movement also benefits from a silicon balance spring and magnetic resistance compliant with ISO 764, practical upgrades that matter far more in daily wear than endless debates over vintage correctness. A sapphire display back allows a view of the movement, while water resistance stands at a perfectly usable 50 metres.

Buyers can choose between an integrated stainless-steel bracelet with on-the-fly micro-adjustment or a grey alligator leather strap with a heritage pin buckle. The bracelet arguably gives the watch a cleaner, more contemporary presence, while the leather version leans harder into its mid-century roots.
