The view of the big blue marble from space
The fascination with space and our galaxy has taken a stronghold in our imagination since we were a child, and it still does every time a new discovery is made or when we look at the stars, they hold us spellbound in their wonderment.
The latest addition to the Bell & Ross BR 03 collection takes us beyond our planet and a little further than the moon, and within sight is our neighbouring planet, Mars. Amid the darkness of space and catching the sun’s rays, our Earth lit up like a patterned marble suspended in dark mid-air, spinning at 69.44 miles per minute on an axis and making its way around our very own star in our system, the sun. A smaller planetary body is caught by the Earth’s magnetic field, drawn into its orbit, rotates around Earth in the anticlockwise direction, and completes its rotation every 27.3 days. Pulling along the moon, Earth rotates around the sun. At a precise moment in time and position, we can spot a red dot in the sky just beyond the moon; the planet Mars fell within our vision in the night sky where there is low light pollution. It is indeed a sight to behold, a natural phenomenon governed by the law of the Universe. And in the midst, a manmade heavenly body, a satellite which will orbit around the Earth in static. Bell & Ross captures this heavenly scene and transforms it into a sophisticated and complex dial art construction that will blow one’s mind. The life-like decal rendition of the Earth placed on the underside of the spherical sapphire dial to give it a realistic curve, takes pride in place in the centre of the dial. The small red round disc rotates around the dial every 12 hours acting as the hour’s hand, and the life-like silvery moon rotates around the dial every hour as a minute hand. In addition, a silvery satellite sweeps around the dial every minute as the seconds hand. A sprinkle of silvery glitters scattered around the blue aventurine dial like the stars in the sky at night completes the mesmerising dial that leaves one in awe of its likeness with the power to seduce you into its darkness and take you far away. The heavenly beauties find a splendid home in the BR 03, perfectly situated within the darkness of the dial and encased in a 41mm black ceramic case. The overall aesthetic creates the illusion of having captured a miniature space, with Earth and its neighbours performing their celestial dance upon your wrist. They are powered with precision by the automatic movement Calibre BR-CL.327, which boasts a 54-hour power reserve.
