Rich with history, innovation, and prestige, the America’s Cup is one of the world’s oldest and most dramatic sporting events. Dating back to 1851, the ‘Auld Mug’ trophy has only been won by teams from four different countries. Omega’s flag has been linked to Team New Zealand (now Emirates Team New Zealand) since 1995 when it first won the competition, led by Sir Peter Blake. In addition, the watchmaker is also an Official Timekeeper for the 2024 race.

The four-time winning team is the defending champion in next year’s Barcelona race and will face off the winner of the Challenger Selection. Ahead of the thrilling seafaring event, Omega has released a new watch to honour the Auckland-based crew, still led by Sir Peter Blake today. The design of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition draws from the team’s logo while maintaining the Planet Ocean line’s chiselled looks.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean is Omega’s luxury diving tool watch that boasts some impressive specs along with Bond-worthy style cred. With a depth rating of 600m, a helium escape valve and Master Chronometercertification, it has explored the globe through the fields of film, fashion, and elite sports. The model is a natural fit with the America’s Cup as well as the hugely successful Emirates Team New Zealand.

For the Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition, Omega created a unique America’s Cup collectable, blending a deep black with the turquoise hues of the team’s logo. It is powered by Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900, an automatic column wheel chronograph movement introduced in 2016 that was the Maison’s first to be METAS-certified. Clocking in at a hefty 45.5mm, the black ceramic case of the watch is complemented by a unidirectional bezel with a white enamel diving scale and lumed triangle-framed dot at 12, which emits a green glow in the dark.

On the matte dial, Omega has included a nod to pre-race protocols with a countdown indicator at 3 o’clock, complete with a flagged start. The indicator’s hand and sub-dial ring are in turquoise, along with the minute track, number 12, and central seconds chronograph hand with America’s Cup trophy counterweight. The design of the countdown timer hand is also inspired by the jib of the boat. This same bright hue, very much like the crystal clear waters surrounding New Zealand, is also featured on the rings of the brushed black ceramic pushers, the “HE” on the helium escape valve, and the Omega logo on the crown.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition is endowed with a black and turquoise structured rubber strap. In addition, a full turquoise rubber strap and two NATO straps are also offered in complementary colourways to change up the look. To keep the sailing watch safe and dry while on land, it is presented in a special box also inspired by the team’s logo. Priced at RM51.300, it’s available at Omega boutiques.
