Omega Planet Ocean Worldtimer

Time is precious, wherever you may be diving.

Omega Planet Ocean Worldtimer Turquoise

It has always been a pleasure to see the Seamaster Planet Ocean, a range from Omega that we don’t get to see much of late. A watch that is a real contender for the best diving watches ever on the market, and one can count on one hand. The collection falls under the Seamaster, debuting in 2005, and was well received for its handsome and rugged good looks for a diving watch without the clunk. Then, in 2014, another round of innovation was introduced, and at that time, all their diving watches received the brand-new Calibre 8900, which comes with a Master Chronometer certification. In 2022, we saw the unveiling of the superb Seamaster Planet Ocean 6000m, which also made it into their Seamaster 75th Anniversary edition of watches in sea blue.

Omega Planet Ocean Worldtimer in Turquoise and Grey dial

Recently, Omega surprised us with the Seamaster Planet Ocean Worldtimer with two colour dial variations, black with grey accents, and black with turquoise accents. The Worldtimer is nothing new; we saw it first in the Aqua Terra 150M range in 2017, and for the first time, it found its way into the Planet Ocean. Some of you might question why that is important to a diver. For one, it can be quite disorienting when you are diving for a while, and second, it can be practical as a sport watch with a Worldtimer, for the same reason when you are away from home, be it diving or frolicking on terra firma.

The Planet Ocean is no shrinking violet; it measures 45.50 mm in diameter. This hefty size is to be expected, as its depth is no mere pond; it is designed to withstand a hostile environment if necessary. The tonneau case is crafted from black ceramic [ZrO2] with robust, faceted integrated lugs. A matching black ceramic bezel features a laser-ablation diving scale with raised indexes and Arabic numerals.

The dial is a rather complex construction, it is made with black DLC and then decorated with a laser-engraved honeycomb pattern. In the centre is a laser-engraved grade 5 titanium globe seen from the north pole, and the landmass is coloured in grey or turquoise varnish. The rotatable 24-hours ring shaded in two tones for day and night indicator sits around the globe, and the fixed 24 hour zones cities sits on the flange with Bienne, the home of Omega has been added for posterity, in grey or turquoise, and inner bezel with the trapezoid SuperLuminova-coated hours indices alternating between them. The hours and minutes sword-shaped hands are located centrally, and the SuperLuminova-filled world time indicator is painted in turquoise to complement the globe.

The fabulous automatic Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8938

Either one looks stunning, depending on your taste, slightly perky or more discreet. Whether it’s a diving watch or for your dry-docked weekend away, it can only be a perfect travelling companion, especially when you have the fabulous Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8938 to power your time, with precision. The Planet Ocean Worldtimer allows you to take your watch diving to a depth of 600m if you wish, a depth the Worldtimer has never been before.
