The brand talisman lands just in time for summer with new shades and complications
Ladybirds are considered good omens in many cultures around the world. Some believe that, if the insect lands on you, you should count the number of spots to predict how many years of luck you’ll have.
The phenomenal Blancpain Ladybird Colours might not have spots per se, but it’s certainly awash with diamonds. So many in fact that its wearer is practically guaranteed a lifetime of good fortune and then some if the precious stones were to be considered as such.
For starters, the bezel of the 34.9mm case of the new Ladybird Colours models features 59 diamonds totalling more than two carats. They are joined by a further 70 diamonds on the textured mother-of-pearl dial.
The dial itself is decorated with colourful midnight blue, peacock green, forest green, lilac, or turquoise Roman numerals. These variations are picked up on the straps of the red or white gold models. Also on display are one of two new complications: a small seconds or a moonphase.
Blancpain has given the dial elements an unexpected asymmetrical touch lest the Ladybird Colours comes across as almost too pretty. The offset Roman numerals are underscored by an inner ring adorned with delicately tapering gemsetting that continues to the small seconds and moonphase indicators.
The models tick to the beat of the Calibre 1163 for the small seconds version and the Calibre 1163L for the moonphase iteration. Both are endowed with a four-day power reserve and a silicon balance spring.
In true Blancpain style, the painstakingly decorated main components of the respective calibres are as technically functional as they are aesthetically pleasing, while their gold oscillating weight matching the case colour features circular openworked patterns harmoniously reflecting the dial design.
