A new size gives a new spirit to the flight instrument series
We are in for a treat from Bell & Ross recently, with the unveiling of the new BR 03 41mm. That slight change in size has made a world of difference, especially among fans who prefer smaller watches or with smaller wrists. At 41mm it is the perfect size without compromising the authenticity of the flight instruments it is based on.
Though on paper when you look at it the difference is miniscule, when you wear it on your wrist you will feel the difference and when you juxtapose it against the original 42mm you will begin to see the differences, especially the rounded corners and the hands.
Soon after unveiling the new size, Bell & Ross introduced the BR 03 Gyrocompass. This is not the first time the Gyrocompass made its appearance in 2013, whereby a silhouette of a fighter jet in SuperLumiNova with its nose and tail stretched fully from one end to the other end acting as the hour pointer and an arrow which acted as an minute indicator with the hours and minutes markers acting as the cardinal points.
The latest BR 03 Gyrocompass 41mm is rather similar ye markedly different from the 2013, and it's more than the size, it’s also the aesthetics of the watch is different. The yellow SuperLumiNova coated silhouette of the fighter jet on the 41mm is smaller it stays within the centre of the black dial and doesn’t overreach over the flange. The minute hand has a SuperLuminova-coated skeleton triangle pointer; likewise, we see it on the long second hand. The applique cardinal signs NSEW are coated with green SuperLumiNova, which also acts as the hour indices and the degrees and minutes are coated with white SuperLumiNova to decorate the black dial. All for easy reading in the dark of challenging lighting conditions helped by the contrast.
The Gyrocompass is inspired by an instrument found on the dashboard of the fighter jet, but the watch does not possess a gyrocompass, only an image or an inspiration. What it does have is usable cardinal points. Bell & Ross's new BR 03 Gyrocompass 41mm is powered by an automatic calibre BR-CAL.302. The handsome and mysterious marvels are housed in a matte black ceramic case. And this black rogue is limited to 999 pieces. So if you want one, you better get to the nearest Bell & Ross boutique.
