Collaborating with Artists is nothing new to Maurice Lacroix. Over the years, the company has worked with young pop and modern artists, engravers and sculptors. They have somehow turned Aikon’s pieces into collectable art, inadvertently gaining cult status and followers.

One of the most memorable pieces was the Aikon Automatic Urban Tribe, a collaboration with Hungarian artist @Timeengraver unveiled in 2021. The entire watch case and bracelet were engraved with elements inspired by iconic features of urban architecture. The engraving lends this modern timepiece an artistic flair with a touch of luxury. Two years ago, they introduced a skeleton version of the Urban Tribe, which, needless to say, was highly sought after.

Wotto aka Craig Watkins

This year, the journey with @Timeengraver continues. A week ago, Maurice Lacroix unveiled its latest collaboration with the artist. The new timepiece is yet another work of art, as the entire watch is adorned with illustrations created by the artist, Wotto, also known as Craig Watkins, a British expatriate living in California. His style is distinctive and uniquely his own. His works consist of a series of doodles, best described as a melange of cute, weird, chaotic, and emotional expressions, reflecting the vibrant urban culture that the art embodies.

Wotto’s superbly imaginative doodles of emoticons are deftly engraved by @Timeengraver onto the 42mm stainless steel case and bracelet in their entirety, with his logo ‘W’ discreetly placed among the fun and cute doodles. This time, it includes the dial, where Wotto has added some colours in a gradation from yellow to blue, transforming it into an eye-popping and striking beauty. The dial is discreetly adorned with small domed rivets as hour markers, accompanied by SuperLuminova-filled hour, minute, and seconds hands centrally located. The colours create an urban fun piece that is even more vibrant and artistic.

Beneath the yellow and blue dial doodled dial is an automatic calibre ML 115 with a 38-hour power reserve, and a transparent back revealing the beautifully clean and polished movement and rotor.
