INTRODUCING: Citizen Tsuyosa 60 - Strength, Refined

Citizen Tsuyosa 60

There is something reassuring about a watch that knows exactly what tt is

The original Tsuyosa never tried to disrupt the market. It simply laid out a clear proposition: integrated-bracelet styling, an automatic movement, confident colours, and accessibility without apology. There was something refreshingly straightforward about that. When I first tried on the 37mm Tsuyosa for our earlier “2-Minute Watch Review”, I remember being pleasantly surprised by how versatile and elegant it looked and felt on my 16cm wrist. I was also rather impressed by how slim it wore – the profile felt neater than I expected – and by how comfortable the bracelet was. Although it isn’t technically a fully integrated bracelet, it was clearly designed to feel like one, flowing smoothly from case to links without awkward breaks. On paper, 37mm sounded small – especially since I’m more accustomed to wearing cases around 40mm – but on the wrist, it felt just right. Not oversized, not trying too hard, just quietly present, like a dependable daily companion. It wasn’t difficult to understand why the collection quickly developed a cult following after its world premiere in 2022.

The Tsuyosa 60 doesn’t attempt to change that identity or dilute its innate charm. Instead, it refines it – and in doing so, feels even more self-assured.

Familiar Lines, Considered Proportions
At 40mm in diameter and 11.7mm thick, the Tsuyosa 60 sits within the modern sweet spot. On the wrist, it feels balanced rather than imposing – retaining that sense of neatness I appreciated in the 37mm version. The crown remains positioned at 4 o’clock, preserving the clean case lines while avoiding unnecessary pressure against the wrist.

The bracelet continues to play a defining role in how the watch wears. Its multi-piece links alternate between brushing and mirror polishing, catching light with restraint rather than flash. Much like the 37mm model, it isn’t technically a fully integrated bracelet, yet it is clearly designed to feel like one – the transition from case to first link is smooth, deliberate, and cohesive. The butterfly clasp keeps the silhouette tidy, allowing the bracelet to sit comfortably and securely.

If the earlier 40mm and 37mm models impressed through proportion, the Tsuyosa 60 builds on that foundation with slightly more polish and presence without sacrificing wearability.

A Dial That Matures The Collection
Where earlier iterations leaned into bold, almost playful colours, the Tsuyosa 60 introduces a more nuanced expression. The geometric dial pattern – subtly reminiscent of Art Deco motifs – adds texture without overwhelming the eye. It reveals itself gradually as light shifts across the surface.

The palette is restrained: Black (NK0020-55E), Dark Green (NK0024-54X), and Ash Blue (NK0023-57L). Each feels slightly more dress-oriented than previous releases, without abandoning the collection’s sporty roots.

The date window at 3 o’clock includes a magnifier – a practical decision that prioritises legibility over purity. Luminous hands and indexes ensure that functionality remains central to the design.

With this new release, the Tsuyosa feels less eager to stand out and more content to settle in – which, perhaps, is exactly why it’s here to stay.
Autonomy That Matters
The defining upgrade lies within. The automatic Calibre 8310 offers a 60-hour power reserve – a meaningful extension over the more typical 40-hour range. In daily life, this translates into real-world practicality. Set it down on Friday evening, and it will likely still be running on Monday morning. For collectors who rotate their watches regularly, that additional reserve removes a small but familiar inconvenience.

Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with 21 jewels and a stop-seconds function, the movement performs within expectations for its segment, rated at -20 to +40 seconds per day. Through the transparent caseback, bright blue screws add a discreet touch of visual interest – not decorative excess, but a reminder that this is a mechanical heart working in view.

Citizen’s vertically integrated manufacture capability underpins this offering. In an entry-mechanical landscape often reliant on third-party movements, that independence makes sense here.

Understated Strength
With prices under S$800 coupled with 5 bar water resistance, the Tsuyosa 60 remains accessible, yet does not feel like a compromise.

The name “Tsuyosa” (強さ) translates to strength. In this iteration, ‘strength’ is not spectacle. It is reliability, consistency, and the confidence to remain unchanged where it matters.
