An announcement that has just been published that takes the world by surprise, but then again, Breitling has always been very supportive of sports of all genres globally, so one can only deduce it as a great move. The revered watch company just recently entered a multi-year collaboration as the NFL’s global partner.
For those who are not familiar with the US of A world of sports, the NFL or National Football League, is one of, if not the biggest, games in that country. In North America, it is commonly referred to as football or American football. It is a game similar to rugby played in the UK. The final game is played between the last two teams at the Super Bowl for the title of NFL champion of the year. The NFL games are played only in the USA and nowhere else. American Football has been played in other European nations. This year, the NFL will host International Games in Brazil, Ireland, the UK, Germany, and Spain.
It makes perfect sense why Breitling is named the official timepiece partner of the NFL; it is not only a great honour for either side, and they can also help each other raise their image awareness, especially the NFL. To celebrate this brand-new partnership, Breitling has launched two NFL Team Edition Collections, part of the sporty and elegant Chronomat Automatic family.

The collection is one of the most elegant of their current sports collection. The watch is entirely made of matte-polished stainless steel. Giving the watch not only its handsome looks but also its robustness, with a finished, wide stainless-steel bezel and four tabs featuring black numerals marking each quarter, along with a Luminous dot on the 12 o’clock tab. The monochromatic emphasised its simple and minimalist approach to its Teutonic aesthetics. The dial is finished in a matte colour that represents the 32 teams in the NFL, so you can choose your loyal team and wear it on your wrist, or you can choose any of the primary colours within the family to your liking - red, green, blue, and black. The dial is decorated with applique steel baton hour indexes coated with SuperLuminova, and the same treatment is applied to the hour and minute hands. The second hand has a SuperLuminova-filled arrowhead tip and a Breitling’s “B” counter balance, and a contrasting colour against the dial colour, a GMT hand with a SuperLuminova-filled arrow pointer. A 24-hour chapter ring features SuperLuminova-printed Arabic numerals and indexes on the flange. What catches one’s attention is the intricate design of the alternating bar and five-link matte steel bracelet.
The sparsely adorned handsome timepiece is powered by an automatic Calibre 32, a reliable workhorse of Breitling. It also packs quite a punch, as it emits 4 Hz or 28,800 VpH, and it has COSC certification, so there are no worries about precision in timekeeping. The mainspring harnesses 42 hours of power reserve. They are housed in a 40mm stainless steel case. A size that is widely preferred, as it suits both larger and smaller wrists. To make it even more relevant, there’s an engraving of the club’s logo of the team you support, and there are 32 of them for you to choose from.
