Blancpain Semainier Grande Date 8 Jours: Malaysia Price and Review
Blancpain charts passing moments with finesse.
Bearing one of the oldest names in watchmaking is certainly tough but Blancpain lives up to its reputation with grace and poise. The brand’s Greco-Roman classic influences resonate throughout its collections, and none more so than the Villeret Collection, a collection named after the Swiss Village in the canton of Bern where founder Jehan-Jacque Blancpain started the company in 1735.

In many ways, the Blancpain Villeret Semainier Grande Date 8 Jours is the embodiment of the Villeret line. It is old-school dressy, finished with attention to detail, and powered by a high-performance movement that takes pride in both beauty and performance.
Oozing vintage aesthetics, the watch’s unabashed formalwear spirit shines through. Although it may appear to be a ‘simple’ round cased timepiece, the Villeret Semainier Grande Date 8 Jours offers plenty of lovely design nuances. The double-stepped bezel and well-proportioned lugs frame a pristine grand feu enamel dial. On the classic dial interface, the user enjoys a display of essential information that serves the needs of a corporate honcho perfectly.
The large twin-aperture date windows provide a beautiful counter-balance to the time display. This is complemented by the calendar week function, which shows the number of the week (and consequently also the month) around the rim of its dial, and is indicated by a blued serpentine hand. Completing the look – and rounding off the watch’s functional merits, is the day display sub-dial at nine o’clock.

Beating within this beauty is a powerful engine, the automatic Calibre 3738G2 movement that is built with three mainspring barrels to guarantee eight days of power reserve, as the name suggests. Also housed within the movement is a titanium variable-inertia balance with gold micrometric regulation screws and a balance spring in silicon to ensure optimum precision.

Despite the wealth of displays and the movement’s muscular performance, the Villeret Semainier Grande Date 8 Jours doesn’t have the feel or look like an overwrought horological beast. Instead, like the best of Blancpain’s Villeret watches, the timepiece is all about hitting that sweet spot between aesthetic sophistication and mechanical strength.
