Zenith Defy 21 Land Rover Edition: Malaysia price and review
Zenith nails sporty-chic.

At the Dubai 2020 watch fair earlier this year, Zenith unveiled a few novelties that really scratched our horological itch. One of these is the brand’s latest collaboration with Land Rover.
This year’s version pays tribute to the Land Rover Defender 2020. The Defender came on the scene in the early 80s and is the shorter version of the original Land Rover, which we all know and love for its real iconic presence. Over the years, the Defender has evolved into a rather handsome and independent individual that can more than hold its own.

Land Rover Defender
Inspired by the Defender, Zenith has opted for the Defy 21 to be its partner in crime. In more ways than one, they reflect each other’s spirit and share the same zeitgeist—multi-talented, urbane and just as sporty at home, on weekends and in challenging terrains. The Defy 21 Land Rover bears all the trademarks of the Defy 21 range, but the aesthetics are made more simple in a minimalist way.

Instead of a skeleton dial, the Defy 21 Land Rover Edition has a solid matte grey dial, complementing the rest of the watch, which is in a similar hue. White Super-LumiNova C3 markings and hands are paired with a touch of orange on the markings for the 1/100th seconds scale and the ring around the crown. The case itself is in sandblasted matte grey ceramic, exuding a rugged demeanour, together with a rubber strap featuring a tire-tread print.
Inside the belly of the urbane stud is the El Primero movement Calibre 9004 with an automatic winding system. It has not one but two escapements, for two different measurements: one for the regular watch, beating at 36,000vph, the other for the chronograph functions, beating at 360,000vph. In addition, the movement is certified by TIMELAB. There is also a discrete linear power reserve indicator, which sits right below the logo at 12 o’clock.
When you juxtapose the watch and the car, you’ll get a sense, not just of the aesthetics of both, but the spirit they represent and just how complementary the two are.
