Oris debuts a utilitarian travel companion.

In celebration of its 110th anniversary five years ago, Oris debuted its very first in-house movement, the Calibre 110. Hailed as a bona fide success, the movement has been released with a new permutation every year since then.

This year is no exception as Oris unveils the Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114, a utilitarian travel companion with GMT and a host of other practical functions. Much like the original Calibre 110 and 111, the Calibre 114 features the small seconds and date windows at nine o’clock while a 10-day power reserve indicator resides at three o’clock.

The Arabic numeral markers and hands are all coated with Super-LumiNova in white, elevating the watch’s legibility while the tip of the centre GMT hand features a handsome pop of red, complemented by the same hue on the power reserve and single line of text at the bottom of the dial. The newly added GMT function is also pretty cool as it is capable of 30-minute adjustments, making it a great companion for those travelling to cities with half-hour deviations like New Delhi, Tehran, or Adelaide.

Inside the watch, the in-house hand-wound Calibre 114 (above) featuring a single oversized barrel beats away at 21,600vph with a power reserve of 10 days. Encasing it is a rather large 44mm stainless steel case that comes with two dial variants (black or anthracite grey). The case features a WWII-inspired look with a fluted bezel, giving it a sporty and bold aesthetic.

Adding to its versatility, the watch comes with a choice of NATO, crocodile leather or stainless steel bracelet. Whether you’re a pilot or just someone with regular jaunts around the globe, the Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 is a handy tool that keeps you in check at home or abroad.
