The enduring nautical partnership marks its fifth year with two major releases in hi-tech composite materials
Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition PAM01405
This is the first Submersible in 45mm to feature a tourbillon and Carbotech, a superior composite material based on carbon fibre. The latter has an uneven, matte black surface, which varies according to the cutting of the material, giving each case a unique appearance.
Apart from the hand-wound P.2015/T mechanical calibre, other highlights include a four-day power reserve, a night/day indication, a 24-hour GMT function and nods to the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team, such as colour palette and thematic straps. Meanwhile, a generous use of Super-LumiNova signals Panerai’s long ties with the field of luminescence.
Technical wizardry aside, what’s really caught our eye is the fact that owners of this watch—limited to just 20 pieces—will be invited to a curated experience during the finals of the America’s Cup in Barcelona this year. Once again, Panerai has chosen a new innovative material called Ti-Ceramitech for both models’ 44mm case and bezel to mirror the ethos of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team and the Maison’s manufacture. The super-tough yet ultra-light material is created using a titanium ceramisation process through Electrolytic Plasma Oxidation, which, as fate would have it, produces a striking ocean-blue hue.
In terms of appearance, PAM01466 has a blue sun-brushed dial and PAM01543 a white-matte grained dial. Both are accented with a decal of Luna Rossa and small red second hands, a subtle nod to the sailing team’s colours. The date window and seconds sub-dial are found at three o’clock and nine o’clock respectively, surrounded by luminous hands and hour markers.
At the core of the Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech is the highly reliable automatic P.900 with a three-day power reserve and a stop-second function to enable precise time setting.
