A much-loved aesthetic gets a (pardon the pun) timely GMT complication
Now that the dark days of the pandemic are behind us, we are chalking up air miles like never before, eager to get those once-in-a-lifetime trips checked off our bucket lists. So Panerai’s decision to add a dual time complication to its Luminor Quaranta collection makes perfect sense.
The Luminor Quaranta BiTempo continues the narrative of a range that has long found favour among enthusiasts with its ability to capture the distinctive aesthetic of the Luminor in a smaller dimension.
Indeed, the 40mm case size is ideal for the task at hand—it gets down to the job of simultaneously tracking local time and a second time zone, in an unobtrusive way that doesn’t attract unwanted attention (we’ve all read the horror stories, right?).
This sense of discretion is aided further by the relatively low-key dial, which is available in either matte black, paired with white Super-Luminova; or matte white, combined with grey Super-Luminova.
The dial also features a small seconds at nine o’clock and distinct indexes reminiscent of previous Panerai models from the 2000s, along with key identifiers of the Luminor line, namely the cushion-shaped case and crown-protecting bridge.
They are complemented by a larger, more prominent date display for enhanced readability. Similarly, the gilded tip of the GMT hand illuminates in blue in low-light conditions, while the indexes glow green, enhancing the watch’s legibility and aesthetic appeal.
Under the hood of the stainless-steel case, the watch is powered by the automatic P.900/GMT calibre with a three-day power reserve, which is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
The Luminor Quaranta BiTempo is elegantly matched with an alligator strap, with tone-on-tone stitching and a brushed steel buckle that contrasts nicely with the polished steel bezel. A rubber strap, in black or blue, also comes as standard and is easily switched out with the intuitive PAM Click Release System.
