A technical marvel celebrates the longstanding partnership between the Swiss-German independent watch company and Sincere Fine Watches
This third SHH Edition, comprising a series of eight pieces, picks up where the “Resonance Zeitgeist” piece from 2021 left off. Naturally, highlighting the unique architecture of the Resonance movement and maintaining the conceptual aesthetic of the original Zeitgeist are constant considerations. Yet, this iteration boasts even greater transparency, drawing attention to Armin Strom’s high standards of finishing and attention to detail.
For starters, there is the in-house movement crafted in German Silver, a special alloy with a unique warm hue that will develop a light patina over time. For this SHH Edition, Armin Strom sought to make the movement even more visible, by using transparent sapphire crystal for both the offset hours and minutes dial, as well as the twin flyback second indications.
In contrast to the intentionally raw execution of 2021’s Zeitgeist, the SHH Edition is a masterclass in hand-finishing and decoration, with expertly applied hand-polished bevels, perlage, circular and straight graining, and Genèva stripes. Most outstanding of all is the three-dimensional centre bridge, which is crafted in steel and embellished by an entirely black polished surface.
One mustn’t forget, of course, the key to the entire puzzle, which is the proprietary Resonance Clutch Spring. It harnesses the physical phenomenon of resonance to enable more regular, precise and consistent timekeeping through the synchronisation of two balance wheels that oscillate in opposite directions simultaneously.
Crafted from a single piece of steel, the Resonance Clutch Spring is designed to transfer energy between both hairsprings and quickly bring the balance wheels into resonance. Armin Strom claims its interpretation syncs faster than any other watch using resonance and remains in a resonant state longer than any other.
A flexible suspension connecting the two hairsprings with its balance wheels also means that all of Armin Strom’s Resonance watches are more resistant to shocks or vibrations than standard mechanical movements.
