Introducing: The Year of The Dragon II
Welcome to the more benevolent heavenly creature of 2024
Following our previous article on The Year of The Dragon, we would like to welcome more watches to join the list to celebrate the New Year according to the Chinese Zodiac which shall rule the year as of 10th February. And there they are, ready to capture your imagination and your desire.
Bell & Ross
Following the success of the beautiful BR 05, Bell & Ross has once again goes all out to impress with their BR 05 Artline Dragon. And rightfully so, it is indeed a cause to celebrate, as the Dragon is not only the most desired Chinese Zodiac creature but it is also the most desired to have, even for those who are not born in the year of the Dragon as it brings good luck, prosperity and success as a talisman to everyone adorning it. The Dragon is engraved with a Tattoo-like artwork using the gadrooning method, which has been practised in China for more than a thousand years, onto the entire top facing surface of this fabulous timepiece, with its head on the dial with its whiskers as hours, minutes and seconds hands, its body encircled around the wrist on the integrated bracelet. The watch is powered by an automatic calibre BR-CAL.321. with 54 hours of power reserve.
Hublot
Spirit Big Bang has never looked so good. This year, Hublot presents the Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon to celebrate the year of the Dragon according to the Chinese Zodiac. This magnificent heavenly creature is also a totem that has been skilfully and creatively created by the Chinese Artist Chen Fenwan of Guangzhou using the millennium-old art of paper cutting and masterfully interpreted and transformed the dragon onto the watch by the ancient European art of Marquetry. The head of the dragon stared back from the dial with its mane in pink, blue, white and grey in the most spectacular way. The dragon’s head on the dial is made of five layers to mimic the effect of the paper-cutting, while the pink, blue, white and grey scaled body is entwined around the rubber strap. The 42mm titanium case housed a HUB1710 automatic calibre with 50 hours of power reserve. This irresistible timepiece is limited to 88 pieces.
Ulysse Nardin
This is the year of the wood dragon, and Ulysse Nardin presents not just a timepiece with a dragon theme. Still, it also presents us with the complete interpretation of the heavenly majestic creature in its entirety, not only a brown or woody tone dragon with five claws which designate it the Imperious dragon, but also its all-important pearl. The Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon Dragon is sculpted out of gold and micro-painted by hand by the master craftsman, as it snakes over, under and around the skeleton dial with the pearl sitting right above and centre of the tourbillon cage, completing the mythical narrative of the dragon and its precious companion. The 3D creation has thus required special adjustments to accommodate the imperious creature, with the glass-box sapphire. The marvel is powered by an automatic calibre UN-172 and housed in a rose gold 45mm case with a black DLC titanium middle case.
