You can count on SevenFriday to come up with something new, heavily leaning on the futuristic side. Over the past decade or so, the watch company has consistently surprised and entertained us with futuristic watches featuring advanced functions and intricate dial designs, typically found on independent watches that cost 50 times or more. SevenFriday is taking us to another generation of time-telling, this time with a touch of classic and mainly modern, without going overboard. The PG1/01 is a stunner, its clean and simple aesthetics, a far cry from the previous generation of complexity, hidden in the modern outlook, lies a something classic, something that we haven’t seen in a while, the black matte main dial that slopes inwards with its relief Arabic numerals hours markers is inspired by the woofer of the sound cone of a loudspeaker of classic audiophile. We have certainly moved into a different realm of inspiration.
At the centre is a glossy turquoise skeleton hours hand and a glossy white minute hand dominates, a yellow skeleton transfer pointer on the GMT disc indicating the 24 hours in black transfer Arabic numerals on a silver ring of the centre dial. The seconds hand in black sits right in the centre. A date window quirkily sits between eight and ten hours of the GMT ring.
The sporty classic modern aesthetics give the new range of PE a powerful voice in its design, also taking SevenFriday on a slightly more serious vein in time-telling on a more global scale. The matte steel bezel is grooved with black Berlac lacquer, further emphasising the company’s DNA pin-cushion 44.5mm stainless steel watch handsomely. Within the steel belly lies the automatic Miyota 9075 calibre with GMT function, and it possesses 42 hours of power reserve. It comes with a Milanese steel strap with a butterfly clasp.
