Before we dive into a discussion about the exquisite Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograph Calendar, let’s find out about the collection the watch in situ belongs to. The Master Control collection was first launched in 1992 at the beginning of the renaissance of mechanical watches, it drew inspiration from the 1950s classic of the heydays of wristwatches. In the last 30 years, the Master Control has remained very much the same, it may have been given a few tweaks here and there but has always returned to its true modern classic and effervescent form, pieced together sumptuously by superbly finished components. It is imbued with the right doses of flair which a defining class of gentleman always sought for his sartorial aesthetics, the timeless quality it possesses.

The Master Control Chronograph Calendar in Pink Gold

The latest pink gold edition of the Master Control Chronograph comes with a highly contrasting brush-sunray black giving it that gentle and subtle sheen to the dial, yet in stark contrast. The dial is decorated with a bi-compax chrono subdials layout, a small seconds at nine o’clock and a chrono 30-minute counter at three o’clock. A date and a moonphase indicator sit at six o’clock, and a day-month window just below the logo at 12 o’clock it also comes with the rare pulsometer scale on the flange marked in red, the day-month and the date, chrono seconds and small seconds’ final numerals are also in red. Yes, it comes with a complete calendar as well, adding another layer of practicality. The hours, minutes and Chrono central seconds are in gold and repeated on the indexes and Arabic numerals decorating the dial. The 12, 3, 6 and 9 also has a luminous dot accompanying them for readability in challenging light condition.

Caseback exhibiting the Calibre 759

Beneath the stunning dial is where it all happens. Powering this timepiece is an automatic Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 759 with Chronograph and full calendar functions and harnesses 65 hours of power reserve. What sets this Chronograph apart from most others is the way its movement is crafted. No shortcuts, it is designed, engineered and manufactured in the best and most effective way. It has a column wheel and is engaged into action by a vertical clutch via the pusher, seen only in most high-end and best Chronographs watches. Done to give the least wear and tear on the Chronograph mechanism and give it a smooth transmission when engaged. The Chronograph is integrated into the movement and not a module, it was designed as an entire unit. And that makes it that much more impressive. The timepiece comes in a 40mm pink gold case with tapered and curved lugs that are beautifully finished, they are integrated into the caseband, which sits on the wrist with comfort.

The aesthetics of the timepiece is not only beautifully put together and superbly engineered, it also wears handsomely around the wrist, even at soirees, especially with that irresistible pink gold and black dial. Not many Chronographs can get away with that! It is also one of the best-looking timepieces around.
