INTRODUCING: Hermès Cut at Watches and Wonders 2024

An Erin O’Keefe scenography—specially commissioned for Watches and Wonders 2024—sets the tone for the new collection

Acclaimed architect and visual artist Erin O’Keefe turns sculptor for the first time at the behest of Hermès for the launch of the new Hermès Cut timepieces. The result is a sculptural scenography comprising a magnified version of her creations.

The New York-based artist sets out to explore the shapes of time, along with the paradoxes of time and space, through colourful structures that evoke both the simplicity of cave art and the formal simplicity of modernist sculpture.

Featuring optical as well as sensory magnification, this universe offers an immersive experience of playful disorientation that challenges perception and unlocks the imagination—which Hermès says represents its design approach for Hermès Cut.

As the luxury conglomerate’s briefing notes to the media read: “The fantasy of a space that is full of surprises for visitors, challenging their observational habits and questioning their gaze. Vision is transformed by movement: each step opens up an unexpected perspective, each glance unveils a new dimension, like the bevel of the Hermès Cut watch that reveals itself only from a certain angle.”

And so, for the new Hermès Cut collection, Philippe Delhotal, Creative Director of Hermès Horloger, takes his cue from simple shapes for a distinctive yet feminine profile that effortlessly merges sharp edges with clean, soft lines in one smooth stroke.
