Journey To The East: Blancpain’s New Traditional Chinese Calendar Watch
Having gotten a head-start in 2012, Blancpain updates its Chinese Calendar complication with a timely Year Of The Monkey special edition.

Three years ago, the brand did a why-didn’t-we-think-of-it-earlier; rolling out complication that displays key aspects of the Chinese traditional calendar to capture the imagination of free-spending Chinese collectors. Besides the usual hours and minutes, and Gregorian calendar displays, the watch also charts the lunisolar calendar, based on 12 lunar cycles as a base unit, as well as signs of the zodiac, five elements and celestial stems common to traditional Chinese calendar.

To usher in the Year of the Monkey, Blancpain offers a commemorative version limited to 36 pieces. Besides the aforementioned features, the watch is decked out with a grand feu enamel dial, framed by a white gold case. The case back displays a white gold oscillating weight set with a Madagascar ruby with an engraved monkey motif.
