INTRODUCING: Bell & Ross BR-03 Space Mission
Bell & Ross is taking us along for a flight into space
We are definitely moving into the space euphoria, with SpaceX of USA and China with its aeronautical companies racing to send rockets and spaceships into the Earth outer stratosphere is mind boggling and neck breaking speed. You have to be living under a rock if you don’t know any of these are happening!!! To celebrate these space activities, Bell & Ross launched the BR-03 Astro just over a year ago, and it was, without a doubt, a success, thanks to its beautifully designed dial. The Earth sits large in the centre and the moon (minute indicator) just behind it, Mars (hour indicator) on its outer reaches and the satellite (second indicator) circumvent around the Big Blue. The rendering was whimsically life-like and fun; no wonder it was a hit with the fans.
On the 17th October, Bell & Ross decided to unveil the BR-03 Space Mission, a follow-up to the Astro, and what could be a series of ‘space’ series to capture our boyhood imagination. And this time round, as you can see, the players are slightly different. But first of all let’s talk about the design language here, the BR-03 square case is made entirely made of black ceramic finished in black, and it measure 41mm in diameter. It has a round bezel and dial, of course, but what’s happening on the dial makes it look like the bezel is a round cabin window looking out onto the blackness of space and watching the scene from a space station.
You could see a life-like rendering of the moon, the Earth and a spacecraft; they are now the main players. This time the Earth and the moon play the hour indicator as they moved around the dial, and the spacecraft plays the minute indicator. How do they work? Well, the moon and the blue Earth are painted on the aventurine disc, enhanced by the sparkle inclusions it possesses, and turned into the night sky with the red planet, Mars; and above it is the spacecraft itself, painted on a sapphire disc, which then allows the full, clear view of the aventurine hour indicator. The dance, created by the moon, Earth, and the spacecraft is simply hypnotic and joy to watch, as it induces you to smile every time you read the time. It’s so alluring, it transports you into space that very moment, and escapism if you like. The hourly journey around the dial is made possible thanks to the automatic movement Calibre BR-CAL.325, which powers the wonder.
If you are a fan of all things aeronautical and space, you will totally get this fun timepiece, as it allows you that moment of fantasy and a trip around space; this limited edition should be the one wrapped around your wrist every so often when the weekend comes.
