Tudor Black Bay Chrono S&G: Malaysia Price And ReviewWritten by Leong Wong
A sporty Tudor staple goes for gold.
Tudor has given its Black Bay chronograph new livery in yellow gold and stainless steel and the result is nothing short of sensational. The play of warm and cool tones works particularly well in this instance, and credit goes to its design team for a rendition that brings out the model’s neo-vintage qualities with such finesse.
In the Black Bay Chrono S&G (where S&G stands for steel and gold), a fixed bezel in yellow gold is paired with a black anodised aluminium disc and tachymetric scale with yellow gold markings.
The bezel frames a domed matte-black dial with two hollowed sub-dials in an elegant champagne hue for optimum contrast. Also in gold are the characteristic angular ‘snowflake’ hands that have been a signature of Tudor divers’ watches from the moment they were first introduced in 1969.
The Chrono S&G features other key characteristics of the Black Bay family, such as a slim 41mm stainless-steel case, and large winding crown and pushers that are inspired by the first generation of Tudor chronographs.
Under the hood is the self-winding Manufacture chronograph Calibre MT5813 with a column-wheel mechanism and vertical clutch. It has a 70-hour power reserve, a silicon balance spring and Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute certification.
Of the three straps and bracelets available, we are partial to the bund option in brown aged leather with ecru stitching and a folding clasp. It not only captures the spirit of 1970s racing, but also pays homage to Tudor’s close ties with the world of motorsports.
