Hublot Spirit Of Big Bang Tourbillon 42mm: Malaysia Price And ReviewWritten by Leong Wong
Smaller in stature but still big in the Hublot spirit.
You know the dominance of oversized watches might finally be on the wane when even Hublot—whose company mantra could arguably be bigger, bolder, better—is answering the growing call to add less hefty models to its collections.
At 42mm, the Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon is definitely a more slimline addition to the family, but this doesn’t make it any less of a Hublot. Even CEO Ricardo Guadalupe asserts, “The very essence of Hublot is fully represented in this Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon.”
For the first time in this flagship collection, the barrel-shaped case is made of carbon-fibre integrating black or blue composites, which gives it a certain edginess. It comes with a black structured rubber strap lined in black or blue/black, depending on the choice of carbon composite. Hublot is releasing 100 models of each variation.
In the same carbon material, the bezel is held by six H-shaped titanium screws while the caseback, also in carbon, surrounds a sapphire crystal. The choice of material greatly reduces the watch’s overall weight, making it seem less like you’re giving your wrist a workout when it’s on.
Meanwhile, the skeleton HUB6020 tourbillon movement, which was specially designed for this case, achieves the trifecta of structure, airiness and technicality. It powers the hours and minutes dial positioned off-centre at three o’clock, tourbillon at six o’clock and power reserve indicator at eight o’clock.
Another first for the Spirit of Big Bang collection would be the inclusion of the in-house developed ‘One-Click’ fastening system, which lets you change the strap safely and quickly on your own and skip your usual visit to your friendly, neighbourhood watch shop.
In the past, barrel-shaped watches had a niche appeal because they tended to be larger in size. Hublot will go some way towards changing this perception with the Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon 42mm and its elegant yet sporty outlook.
