The World of Universal Geneve

A surprise and highly anticipated revival of a sleeping giant

The World of Universal Geneve

One of the biggest news in the world of horology recently has to be the revival of the once renowned Swiss iconic watch brand, Universal Geneve, famed for the chronograph timepieces in the 60s and 70s and right into the 80s, also for the striking futuristic watches and loved for their ladies' timepieces. They were art pieces by themselves, and Universal Geneve was the ‘it’ watches of the moment. Unfortunately, like many Swiss mechanical watch companies, it gradually disappeared. Then, in 2023, the Maison was resuscitated by the Partners Group and CVC Capital Partners, and yes, Partners Group also owns Breitling.

For those unfamiliar with the iconic brand, here's a little background story on Universal Geneve: the watch company was founded in 1894 by Numa-Emile Descombes and Ulysse-Georges Perret. They were innovative and exciting and imbued their watches with impeccable craftsmanship, earning the moniker “Couturier de la Montre.”

The new owners will adhere to Universal Geneve’s heritage and will develop new manufacturing movements and striking designs to house the movements and carry on with their iconic legacy where they left off. This is indeed an exciting time.

Universal Geneve has begun its new chapter with a new dedicated website and social media channels. Now fans and curious browsers can access the brand’s identity, latest news and reveals. The new website brings to life the rich history and world of elegant designs of Universal Geneve with artwork by Constantin Prozorov, an internationally acclaimed artist.

Universal Geneve CEO Georges Kern says, “There is a lot to look forward to, and this is just the start of a significant journey”

Gregory Bruttin, Managing Director of Universal Geneve, who is a master watchmaker himself, would like to add, “The New Universal Geneve website and social media pages offer an exciting glimpse of what’s to come for Universal Geneve”
