INTRODUCING: Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day Date 41

The contemporary-looking Pontos gets a subtle refresh, available in a variety of options.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Benzilla

A lot of attention has been paid to Maurice Lacroix’s Aikon collection over the last few years, and with good reason. The watchmaker that was once known for square gear wheels and other whimsical designs has focused on strengthening its core collection. The Aikon, its integrated bracelet model, has been incredibly successful, with models such as the 39mm Aikon Skeleton and the colourful and wildly creative Aikon #tide, which has livened up the brand.

Meanwhile, the watchmaker has also been refining its other collections, including the Pontos. Nothing radical, but small touches can give a breath of fresh air to staples in the Maurice Lacroix family. The Pontos Day Date was already refreshed in 2020, which was the 20th anniversary of the collection, with new dial colours. Once again, subtle tweaks to the dial give the Day Date a contemporary presence.

New Dials for the Pontos Day Date
Firstly, the case of the Pontos remains the same. A round case middle that’s ellipsed on the right doubles as a crown guard. The asymmetry makes the watch stand out among a field of standard, perfectly balanced round watches. Stepped lugs that flow into the case middle of the watch strengthen the architecture of this model. The lugs are well-curved, with a polished step against the brushed, flat surfaces of the case.

The dial comprises three parts – an outer ring with angled hour markers, a minute track, and an inner display. The minute track and hour markers feature is contrasted against the three dial options of black, silver, and anthracite. The day and date windows are positioned at 12 o’clock under the logo and six o’clock along the minute track, respectively.

The silver and anthracite dials feature 4N gold-coloured markers and hands, with white day and date discs for the former and black for the latter. The minute track is gold-coloured for the anthracite dial and black for the silver dial. The silver dial thus has a slightly vintage feel, while the anthracite dial reminds one of a modern home interior. The black dial features silver-coloured markers and hands as well as a matching minute track and has a striking monochromatic look.
