Corum Heritage Corum Lab 01: Malaysia Price and Review

Here’s one for the future.

Corum Heritage Corum Lab 01

At first, the words ‘Heritage’ and ‘Lab’ look rather incongruous together in this collection’s name. But they make sense soon enough. Having recently celebrated its 60th anniversary, Corum wants to make it clear that it is not one to rest on its laurels, not even when the brand boasts iconic collections like the Golden Bridges and Admiral in its stable.

Corum manifests its forward-thinking ethos with the appropriately monikered Heritage Corum Lab 01. And you are correct if you think that the ‘Lab 01’ part of the name suggests a progressive spirit. While the watch flaunts a familiar profile with its tonneau-shaped case, used on the Golden Bridges models, the Heritage Corum Lab 01 is quite unlike anything that the brand has done.

Anchoring the watch is an open-worked movement, the CO 410, distinguished by its barrel shape. Unusually shaped movements are rare, simply because they are made exclusively for a particular case shape and hence have tightly defined manufacturing and production scope.

Though it only displays the hours and minutes, the movement is presented in a manner that channels the collection’s high-tech attitude. The partially openworked and layered anthracite dial is decorated with what seems like patterns on an electronic circuit board. Visible through the various windows are key components like the winding barrel and micro-rotor. It is a look that is abashedly modern with hints of race car inspired design.

Launched in Beijing in November to commemorate the opening of Corum’s first store in China, the Heritage Corum Lab 01 is housed in a DLC-treated titanium case, and is available in two versions limited to 99 piece each – one with red accents on the dial, and the other with white.
